Job description
- Administer Microsoft SQL Server and IBM DB2 databases, including installation, configuration, upgrade, and decommissioning;
- Ensure the availability, integrity, and performance of application databases;
- Implement and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery policies;
- Collaborate with development teams to design database schemas;
- Support application lifecycles, including development, testing, pre-production, and production;
- Diagnose and resolve application database issues;
- Analyze and optimize performance, including SQL queries, indexing, and execution plans;
- Implement monitoring mechanisms, including monitoring and alerts;
- Perform capacity analyses and recommend improvements;
- Manage access, roles, and permissions;
- Implement security best practices, including encryption, auditing, and compliance;
- Participate in audits and meet regulatory and organizational requirements;
- Document environments, procedures, and standards;
- Contribute to the improvement of DBA practices and the automation of recurring tasks;
- Ensure a technology watch on Microsoft SQL Server and IBM DB2.
- Hold a college or university degree in computer science or a related field;
- Have a minimum of five (5) years of experience in application database administration;
- Have significant experience with Microsoft SQL Server and IBM DB2 in a production environment;
- Have an AWS certification;
- Proficiency in SQL, including T-SQL and SQL DB2;
- Experience in backup, recovery, and high availability;
- Demonstrate experience in optimizing database performance;
- Have used monitoring and diagnostic tools;
- Know Windows and/or Linux environments;
- Demonstrate an analytical mind and great rigor;
- Demonstrate an ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams;
- Demonstrate a sense of priorities and an ability to manage multiple folders simultaneously;
- Good communication skills, both oral and written;
- Experience with mission-critical application environments (an asset);
- Knowledge of high availability and disaster recovery environments, including clustering or replication (an asset);
- Knowledge of DevOps, automation, or CI/CD pipelines (an asset);
- Experience in a regulated environment or large enterprise (an asset);
- Knowledge of other database management systems such as Oracle or PostgreSQL (an asset).
