Job description
- Collect functional, performance, scoring, environmental and safety requirements from mission stakeholders and the development of CONOPs;
- Relate payload requirements and performance to the embedded processor;
- Coordinate with the cybersecurity team for payload-specific assessments;
- Perform requirements management and maintain bidirectional traceability throughout the program lifecycle;
- Design the payload architecture (antenna arrays and RF Tx/Rx chain, digital beamforming, processing chain and digital electronics, power, thermal and ground);
- Lead the conceptual, preliminary and detailed phases of the design, producing trade-off studies and performance budgets;
- Write interface documents (ICDs) with other subsystems and the ground segment;
- Provide system-level specifications to hardware designers, review schematics, layouts, thermal interfaces, and mechanical stresses;
- Perform performance simulations to ensure image quality;
- Support the development of algorithms and analyses for SAR processing and moving target detector and beam pointing;
- Define and maintain the DC power budget of the payload with usage patterns;
- Perform FMECA, FDIR, reliability and availability analyses in order to meet mission objectives;
- Communicate technical status, risk assessments and results of trade-off studies to program management and/or clients/partners;
- Support payload design authority during design reviews (power/structure/thermal interfaces and mission operations evaluations);
- Liaise with the Electrical, Power, Structural, Thermal, Software, Ground Segment and Mission Operations teams to resolve integration issues in the early stages;
- Support B&P activities (Phase 0 & pre-phase A);
- Develop the Payload Verification Plan covering unit and system testing, environmental and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing;
- Drive the implementation of the test automation framework, the definition of test cases, the analysis of results and the certification of test reports;
- Supervise, guide entry-level and intermediate engineers and trainees;
- Act as a technical liaison with external customers, partners and suppliers;
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives;
- Contribute to MDA's knowledge base, process improvements, and standards development;
- Ensure that all artifacts, analyses, software, deliverables, and documents are versioned;
- Lead and support design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, MRR/TRR, etc.);
- Support technology roadmap and innovation.
- Provide technical support to SatOps teams for satellite performance monitoring;
- Support on-orbit anomaly cause investigations; update databases and capitalize on REX;
- Analyze in-orbit telemetry and generate performance reports;
- Support SOOH development and operator training.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Aerospace or Physical Engineering with five (5) years or more of experience in the development of remote sensing systems on LEO/MEO missions; experience in testing (an asset);
- Have great writing skills and a solid understanding of the fundamentals of space engineering;
- Be able to support integration, testing, and troubleshooting processes;
- Possess the ability to work independently with little supervision;
- Demonstrate an ability to fragment complex problems into building blocks to solve them through analysis, analogy or creativity;
- Have a mastery of Confluence and JIRA;
- This position requires fluency in French and English for daily tasks, understanding documentation, and professional communication with customers, suppliers, and colleagues across Canada. Language skills in French and English are essential, both oral and written.
